"I've known Marcos for around 8 years now. He is someone who is truly passionate about dance, with regards to Brazilian Zouk, to the best of my knowledge, he started up a scene in China, which has grown significantly. He has worked tirelessly to make this happen. On a personal level, Marcos is one of the few people whom, I can say with certainty, is a good, honest person, with a great deal of integrity. I'm proud to call him a FRIEND, and very proud for what he has done for Brazilian Zouk in Asia in general.

My head hurt after class today, not from all the head rolls and hair flicks but from the sheer volume of all the content ..bam, bam, bam, one after the other, no time to process..I love it and it makes me go crazy at the same time. I couldn't remember half of it by the end of two hours. Marcos doesn't just focus on teaching a set of repetitive steps, he teaches you the concepts. How well I dance is how well I apply them. I screwed up beautifully at the end, forgetting to apply everything, and he says, "Not okay, but not bad, could be worse." A good teacher won't teach you the steps, he'll teach you how to dance.

I knew Marcos in 1998/1999 where I used to do dance classes, in Madeira. it was the most fun classes that I ever had in my life so far , Marcos was a person really nice and available. Easely we learn how to like and get in love of his personality and the way he danced . He had a gift to make me feel like a princess and a good professional dancer (not the case}, he could put anyone to dance and share all good moments of his dance in class.
I miss so much to dance with him , because I never find anyone like him beyond professional and freind.

Marcos loves teaching Brazilian Zouk. That might sound obvious for a testimonial but in my humble opinion it’s actually quite a rare quality among dance instructors. He is also a wondrously skilled inspiring dancer. That combination, of natural talent, a deep passion to share it, years of experience teaching and performing, coupled with a unique personalised approach, makes him unique. Marcos adopts a technical, in-depth and practical approach which starts with a rigorous no-nonsense emphasis on basics, comprising form, footwork, musicality and the various aspects of smooth-but-decisive leading and following. He does not allow the importance of any of these factors to be diminished and often approaches the problem of conveying this knowledge in an indirect but natural way, making the learning process more intuitive and resulting in a much more deeply embedded understanding which the student carries forward in many other scenarios. Marcos is also passionate in solving specific issues a student has, irrespective how minor or major they are. He takes pride in understanding quirks/anomalies/blocking factors that the student may not be able to comprehend. All this teaching prowess is wrapped in a boyish enthusiasm and amicable, approachable personality. Marcos was instrumental and firing and nurturing my passion for couple dance via Brazilian Zouk, after my initial experience with Salsa had left me disinterested. He is a great dance mentor and the confidence he instilled in me have changed my entire outlook, not only in dance but for any challenge I now face.

Marcos taught me not only how to dance, he taught me how to love dancing. In class, he teaches what zouk/salsa is, and in socials he guided me to feel the dance. There were no need for words, he would teach you by dancing with you, patiently and skillfully guiding you through every movement through experience. It's the best way to learn dancing and I learned so so much! It's really his passion to give the best to his students that is most admirable. And he brings everyone together, creating a great dancing community with great synergy. I made many friends through the classes, so every class (and after-class drinks/meals), performance practices and socials were very enjoyable!

Marcos is a wonderful teacher who is really invested in his students development. His classes are always entertaining and his "female styling" is exceptional :). Marcos' classes feel more like a family gathering than one of strangers who have a passion for dance. His love for dance is truly inspiring. Anna Cheung (Hong Kong, Australia): 2015
I am so inspired from Marcos much more than the steps but the smoothness, styling ;and most of all ,fine connections between partners in partner dancing. He can explain in details of the touch and mechanism of movement so well, so practical. Marcos helps me realise the soul of dancing, which is like a living! Zouk is one of the dances especially inspired from him. Other than dancing, I got his professional advise on my body fitness improvement. In fact, he is more than a dancer, he is an athlete professional. Marcos is so enthusiastic and passionate about teaching, sharing anything he knows with you. Such a humble and friendly professional to approach with. Along with his high creativity, talents in designs and graphics, great sense of humor, unique female styling, plus the group of enthusiastic people he brings, I really have a lot of fun, laughter, joy and love Payal Grover New Delhi India
My experience about marcos started with joint workshop in DELHI NCR for hip hop Aerobics , step Aerobics and latin Aerobics. Marcos Fonseca is really a unique mentor in many ways right from his techniques, his art of flawless motion in step changes, above all a very downtoearth, Humble , friendly person. Being a instructor for zumba and aerobics i never imagined i can use such flawless and wonderful techniques which can make any normal person workout so easily. Truely inspiring person with indepth knowledge about his techniques and art to make every person move like him.. |

Before, I have taken many dance classes with various instructors. They taught me all sorts of steps, moves and techniques. Then I met Marcos. He was the only one who taught me rhythm and musicality. Marcos focuses on "thinking" and "living" the dance floor, instead of just making you "memorize" the steps. He always explains how the body reacts to a certain move and why the move needs to be like that. If you want to start "experiencing" the dance rather than just "memorizing" it, Marcos is the one you are looking for. Hong Kong -Australia Shirley Kent
june 2015 you know what I like about Marcos Fonseca s training, he copied my wrong moves and exaggerated to an ugly version, I cracked out everytime , then he showed me the correct way!! he is a big winder but FUN!!! |

I had Zouk class with Marcos for about a year, during which time he had totally changed my view toward partner dancing. Emphasising on leading and following aspect, his teaching approach enable student to look beyond the set routines taught in class and really enjoy dancing instead. After a long tiring day at work, dancing in Marcos class always put a smile on my face at the end of the evening. Hong Kong - Hannah Chin 2015
This is an absolutely fantastic experience taking Marcos' fitness and dance classes at a local gym centre. I have been attending fitness classes for more than a decade but never met a professional instructor like him who is so dedicated, patient, attentive and acquires such a broad knowledge in the field. Unlike other instructors who may just pursue speed in the dance classes, I appreciate Marcos' tremendous effort to fine-tune/fix my deficiency in rhythm and musical sense in a step-by-step manner. I definitely enjoy every class a lot. We are so lucky to have Marcos teaching in Hong Kong. Leena Wong Hong Kong 2015
Marcos is not only a dancing instructor but also a friend who is approachable and always comfortable to talk with:) He is an interesting person, full of sense of humour, We always full of laughter with him. He always shows his enthusiastic and passionate on his teaching. He is very patient to teach and explain details. He has never exploded and never showed any impatience on me when I made the mistakes again and again. He even tried to explain in a vivid way to help me to remember it easily. He is not only teaching the step but also the musicality. He tells us how to apply on different situation practically. I really like how he tutor the dance movement, facial expression, connection and also the "lady style" most. He dances lady step even more sexier than a REAL lady! OMG haha.... Moreover, his leading is great, he makes all the girl dance beautifully :) Most importantly, I am really appreciated his patience on teaching me who always make the mistake repeatedly and sharing of his valuable knowledge with me. Thank you soooooooooo much !!... |

Marcos Fonseca, the Sultan of Zouk as he famously known as, i met Marcos during the training of IZFM 2013... We both connected really well right from the 1st day of the rehearsal.. As he was our teacher for the flash mob the whole experience of learning Zouk was simply amazing.. His passion of spreading the love to dance is uncomparable.. His classes are always so warm and fun..Marcos is one of my closest friend in Hong Kong and i wish him all the best for all his future endeavors.. May u cherish and blossom and keep spreading the love of dance.. God bless Purnashree Singha 2014

Marcos started teaching me Zouk in September 2010 and I can honestly say that I wish I could have spent more time learning from him before he went travelling. Marcos makes the whole learning experience fun meaning that you will always want to go back for more. I am not the most natural dancer, but thanks to Marcos’ knowledge of body mechanics he is able to break down the area that I am struggling with and knows how to explain the body movements that make up each dance move. Because of that my confidence levels have improved and I am doing something that I never thought I would be doing! Another of Marcos’ many strengths is that he can teach you to lead properly which is one of the most important things for any male Zouk dancer. |

Before met Marcos I had never expected that I would get to know zouk. It was all of a sudden that I joined the flashmob and my life seemed to be lit up. We spent so many happy hours together, learning to feel the music, the beat and how to express our sensuality. We all admitted that Monday night in HAWA is used to be the best moment in the week. I would like to express my love and gratitude to Marcos for his special patience and detailed training on me, although I 'm the queen of laughing kkkkkk. Just looking forward to the date of Marcos' back to sz.

Thanks to Marcos, he opened the zouk world to me. His style is extremely natural, he takes advantage of each move using body mechanics. Being Chinese I noticed that there was a Tai chi influence and this mix of sensations from different cultures interested me a lot. I am inspired by the way Marcos flows, how he interprets the music and the fact that he genuinely puts students' development first. I was totally addicted to his classes. I went from attending one class per week in the beginning just to destress from a hectic day working in the city, to one class every day in Sep 2010, the last month that Marcos taught full time in London and it became one of the most memorable months in my life. Dancing zouk makes me able to express who I am and it has certainly become my true passion.

I have experienced learning from various instructors from around the world, but my Zouk mentor Marcos Fonseca is something else. Such immaculate conceptual clarity and understanding of such intricate details, along with the eagerness to share it all without holding anything back & the amazing ability to communicate in a way that a student of any level can easily comprehend & grasp such minute details, without any pretence or arrogance... it's mind blowing. Thank you sir and keep spreading the love! — feeling blessed.

OMG!! I just got KIZOMBAFIED!!
It is just incredible how much Marcos can teach in just one workshop. I have only done 2 workshops before, but this was by far the best one. Very, very happy to have learnt this beautiful dance form today.

I guess my non-dancing friends will go a little mad at all the Zouk posts that are going to keep happening for the whole month of May. But I just can't help it because I am soooooooo happy. I have decided to call this month "May, Marcos, Me" This man is amazing! As good as he is a human being, so is he a great teacher. I am not sure if it is more Zouk or dealing with Marcos an extremely enjoyable experience. Marcos gets out the best of people’s dance potential. As many others, I did not have any dance background and I did not even know about Zouk existence! Charismatic Marcos pulled me in the class in 2009, made me grow very fast as a dancer and since then, I couldn’t stop. With his bubbling personality he also succeeded in making of a bunch of unknown people an amazing group of friends sharing his dance passion. About Zouk I can only say it is one of the most sensual forms of expression. Zouk exclusivity is what makes me proud of dancing it. Ilaria Guandalini in Action

Gratitude Time: In my journey from being totally disinterested in dancing, to running a dance studio, teaching & also choreographing... From being as pathetic as possible to becoming at least a presentable dancer & a decent instructor, I have been lucky to have met the following people (in no particular order): Richard David Tholoor for giving me authentic Salsa technique & a lot of encouragement n guidance like a true mentor & inspiring me to be humble like him, Marcos Fonseca for making me a Zouker & giving true knowledge, & being open to share everything that he knows, & above all being such a good friend. Emily Ma, though much younger to me, but being as caring as a mother, helping me so much all the time. Jhon Freddy Narvaez from whom I got to know the real base technique in Salsa for the 1st time & offering me to come & learn with him (which unfortunately couldn't happen). And, Ana Ilmi for being such a gem of a person from whom I not only learnt basics of Jazz but also how to be humble, the excellent work ethics & professionalism, & so much commitment & dedication towards their student... Anybody can be a great dancer, but these are very few people who are a combination of great dancers + superb people. I salute you all! |
